Windows 10 Update. What's Next?

Windows 10 May 2020 Update is ready. What’s next?

Development of Windows 10 is a continuous process and it receives features updates on an approximately six-month cadence. The feature updates bring significant improvements, user-facing changes, and as well as security improvements to enterprise features.
The Windows 10 May 2020 Update is the latest iteration of Windows 10. The update is informally or internally known as Windows 10 20H1 and it has reached its final build of the cycle.
The May 2020 Update build is available for the members of the “Release Preview” Ring and Slow Ring of the Insider program, a Windows beta testing program. Microsoft isn’t saying when the Windows 10 May 2020 Update will roll out to the consumers and enterprises, but we’re hearing that the update could be launched in the second or third week of May.
Like its predecessor, the feature update is likely to roll out on a Tuesday and the release date could be 14th or 21st of May.

Microsoft says it will keep publishing new bug fixes until then.
While the update would become available in May, it could take some time to arrive on your PC due to the phased nature of the rollout. If you can’t wait to receive it, then there are various available to you. For example, you can use the Media Creation Tool, ISO files, or the Insider program to install the update.
If you want to install the May 2020 Update right now via the Insider program, make sure to take a backup of files stored in the system drive, unplug and remove your external drives or memory cards, and download the necessary drivers if available.
You should also expect new cumulative updates for Windows 10 version 2004 in the Release Preview Ring as Microsoft is still hoping to fine-tune the experience before the green signal for production devices is given.
Remember, Microsoft has kept the May 2020 Update largely unchanged for months and the preview builds are very stable.
Windows 10 version 2004 isn’t a small update like the November 2019 Update, but neither is it an update with dramatic changes. There are useful little improvements all over the OS including DirectX 12 Ultimate with improved raytracing support.
You’ll also notice improved multiple monitor support, video output enhancements and better gaming performance if you have dedicated hardware and game support for that.

Some of the biggest changes are improvements to Cortana, Windows Search and Windows Subsystem for Linux. The Your Phone app is also getting better in this release.
After May 2020 Update is released, Microsoft will begin testing Windows 10 20H2 (a minor cumulative update-like release) with testers in the Release Preview Ring.

Windows 10 is getting faster in next feature update

Windows 10 is getting faster in next feature update: Windows 10 devices could lose some of its lusters and get slower over time. While there are ways to improve your device performance, it looks like Microsoft is finally making changes with May 2020 Update to make Windows 10 run faster on some hardware. With Windows 10 version 1909, Microsoft made substantial changes to Cortana, separating it completely from Windows Search. In May 2020 Update (version 2004), Microsoft has fine-tuned disk usage of Windows Search indexer to address high disk usage caused by the aggressive indexing process. Microsoft states that Windows Search can now better identify peak usage times and manage the indexer accordingly. It’s true, according to multiple tests we did on real hardware and virtual machines with different configurations.
